Arley gained his Herding Title today, Although nervous I thoroughly enjoyed it out there and seeing some nice work coming from him. He wasn't as switched on for it as I had hoped but we made it through and a pass is a pass. We still have a lot to learn but it's nice to do different things and enjoy the comradery at herding with everyone cheering each other on in hope of us all passing. Sharing the love of doing things with our dogs, food and laughs is what it is all about. The judges: Kristen Hughes and Ann Moy were great and we are so lucky to have people willing to put time into training (Karron) and providing their sheep and properties (Sue) to us city folk who would never be able to try these things without such generosity.
This morning Arley and I headed down to SACA so he could have a little play on the sheep. I knew he loved it when he last encountered them so was quietly confident we would go alright.
We had to show:-
Control on a long line
"Call to handler" on long line
Long line removed
Show interest on stock
We passed with flying colours and the Judge really liked him. She said he had shown some of the best instinct she had ever seen in a Lappie which was great feedback.
Finnesse Aim For Fame(AI) wins 'Intermediate In Show' and Reserve Dog Challenge at the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria Specialty
Finnesse Aim For Success(AI) Suri wins 'Intermediate in Show' at the Finnish Lapphund Specialty Show of NSW
The Finnish Lapphund club of NSW had their Inaugural Specialty Show with a wonderful turn out of people and gorgeous Lappies. We were thrilled with Suri's results. She was in the biggest class with lovely competition included a few imports and went on to win 'Best Inter in Show' after first beating off the bitch class then the best male. Very proud of her and Chrissy and appreciated getting a run down on the day.
I heard everyone had a wonderful time and I was disappointed that I missed it but Ella had newborn puppies that I needed to be with.
Big Day at Dog school today. Had a mini Agility trial today with just our members. Poor Ruben got put in to the advanced class competition because I couldn't participate in the beginners session as I was helping out. Mumbled away to myself about how I was supposed to compete with Masters dogs..mumble , mumble! Well he kicked some butt and scorched in a time of 17seconds and second place - clean run! He was a little tired after his big day out as one of the pictures shows. Sorry I did not film it now! Go the Finnesse babies!
Ella has been confirmed pregnant and puppies are due around the start of April. We are thrilled and hoping for some lovely puppies from this combination.
Dam: 'Ella' (Aus Ch Findol Fade to Black) Owner: K. Thompson (Finnesse Kennels)
Sire: 'Louis' (Aus Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RE HSAs (Imp USA)) Owner: J. Lincoln (Armahani Kennels)
Both parents have been DNA tested clear of PRCD-PRA; hip/elbow scored; eye tested, clear; fully health tested and are sound in type, structure and temperament.
A bit about the handsome Louis :-
Louis was born in France, raised in the USA, then came to Australia in December 2007. He has done very well for himself in the show ring and in different dog sports, he also has the sweetest temperament. He is very much a 'Mummy's boy' and just loves to please which is very helpful when it come to training, trialling and showing.
He has some lovely progeny out and about succeeding in many things and we hope for the same.
It was confirmed today that Quinn (Aust Ch. Kalevi Cheri Flora HT) is pregnant and puppies are due in early Feb. Mel Scriven of Lempo Kennels is Quinn's very proud owner and is very much looking forward to her first litter. We were thrilled to be asked if she could use Arley as the sire. I am a very big fan of Quinn's both in and out of the show ring and both of them get on very well together.
Mel rang as soon as Quinn had her ultrasound to tell us the wonderful news and we were so happy for her. With such gorgeous parents that have done very well for themselves in the show ring we are really hoping for some quality, healthy, typey puppies with adorable temperaments. They both have such funny, happy personalities that make us laugh.
Look out who-ever owns their babies when it comes to water, both are naturals at swimming and freely swim when given the chance and both like getting up to a bit of mischief and are pretty cheeky.
